Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been earned on hardcourt

A resurgent the Russian player secured his first title for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the competition title decider.

Medvedev, a former number one, has experienced a torrid period, winning just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a setback at the American major.

His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in specific - caused him falling of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with former trainer Cervara.

Presently working with his coach and his other coach, he has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested competitive victory over opponent Moutet.

It is his initial championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court since that period of 2023.

Victory also indicates he has secured 21 championships at twenty-one different events.

"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to get a trophy is particularly special," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my child her name, because the first title I achieved when my child my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his previous six championship matches, featuring in that event in the past months.

Medvedev's defensive approach and frequent emotional displays on court had led observers to doubt if his capacity to play at the top level was over.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and play positively, backed up by an improved serve.

The champion came back from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Frenchman, securing four of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.

The pair exchanged break points in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his initial professional championship, gained dominance to create a decider.

The opponent saved four initial opportunities in a competitive final set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.

Appropriately, the winner clinched the win with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to manage a shot after a lengthy match.
